Autocad Architecture Cant See Drawing on Print Preview

Issue:

When plotting from AutoCAD, one or more drawing elements or lines do not show up in the output (PDF, hard copy) and do not display in print preview. Also, the following may be observed:

  • Xrefs that are in the drawing do not plot using the PUBLISH command.
  • Objects on layer 0 are not plotting.

Causes:

Possible causes of this issue are:

  • Incorrect Plotter Configuration.
  • Layers set to No Plot or turned off.
  • Objects placed on the Defpoint layer.
  • Plotter settings for Shade Plot set incorrectly.
  • Individual Layer States overridden.
  • Xrefs set to Overlay.
  • Incorrect Layer Color type.
  • Corrupt Layer.
  • Printer Driver out dated or corrupted.
  • Frozen or corrupt View Ports.
  • Incorrect Camera coordinates.
  • CTB file customization.

Solution:

Try the following in order:

  • Check layers to make sure they are all set to plot. Type LA to open up the layer manager > Check the plot column of the layer > Toggle it to plot.

Note: In AutoCAD for Mac, the Plot column in the layers' palette is hidden by default. To turn it on, right-click and column heading and choose Plot.

  • Move objects off the Defpoints layer. If there is a Defpoints layer in the drawing, any objects on that layer will not be plotted.

  • Check the Shade Plot setting in the plot options and change it from As Displayed to Wireframe.

  • Check for layer states that could be overriding or misapplying layer settings.

    1. On the command line in AutoCAD, enter the LAYERSTATE command.

    2. Select a different layer state and click Restore.

    3. Enter the LAYERSTATE command again and restore the desired layer state.

  • If the missing content is from externally referenced drawings (xrefs) then do the following:

    1. In the main drawing ,turn on the layer the XREF is placed on.

    2. check the type of XREF, whether it is set for Attach or Overlay.

Note:Overlay will only "see" the top-most drawing, but nested xrefs will not print or publish.

  • Enter PROP and select the missing objects. Then, check the layer properties.

    • From the Layer drop-down, choose a layer which is set to plot.

    • Objects and layers set to RGB white (255, 255, 255) will not plot. Change the color to Index Color 7 (Named Color White).

    • Certain shades of black (such as Black 251 or 252) may not plot on certain devices.

  • Data corruption in a layer can cause it to not plot. Test by moving the objects to a new layer.

  • Printer driver corruption can cause items not to plot. Update or reinstall the printer driver. Print drivers can be downloaded from the manufacturer's website.

  • Verify the installed version of AutoCAD is compatible with the operating system version.

  • Check CTB file to make sure that the layer color is not screened to 0:

    1. Type Stylesmanager > double-click on the .CTB file that you are using.

    2. Go to "Form View" tab > Select the colour being used for the items not plotting. For example, layer 0 is set to use colour 7 by default.

    3. Set Screening to 100 by toggling the arrows, > Press Save and Close.

Solutions specific to plotting from paper space

  • Check to see if the layer is not frozen in the VP with Viewport Freeze.

  1. In paper space, go to the Home tab and in the Layer's palette, select Layer Properties.

  2. Go to the layer that is not showing the objects and see if the Viewport Freeze is on.

  • Delete and re-create the viewport, or create the viewport next to the one not showing the objects.

  • Check for incorrect camera coordinates.

    1. Activate one or more viewports where objects are missing.

    2. Enter VIEW.

    3. Check for the camera Location and Target values for the current view.

    4. If any of the values are very large, do any of the following:

      • Copy functioning viewports from another layout.

      • Delete all viewports in the layout and recreate them.

      • Activate the malfunctioning viewport and use the DVIEW command to set the Target and Location to smaller values.
